ABraytCSPfuture Shines at SolarPACES 2025

The ABraytCSPfuture project proudly participated in the 31st SolarPACES Conference, held from September 23–26, 2025, in Almería, Spain. This premier international event, organized by IEA SolarPACES and hosted by CIEMAT-PSA, brought together over 500 scientific contributions from around the globe, focusing on the latest advancements in concentrating solar power (CSP), thermal, and chemical energy systems.

Our consortium was represented by Dr. Christos Agrafiotis from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Javier Baigorri Martínez from the National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER). Their contributions underscored ABraytCSPfuture’s commitment to innovation in high-temperature air-based CSP and thermochemical energy storage.

Key Contributions at SolarPACES 2025

  • Oral Presentation by Dr. Christos Agrafiotis (DLR):
Dr. Agrafiotis presented on «Monolithic Porous Perovskite Ceramics for Hybrid Sensible/Thermochemical Heat Storage in Air-Operated CSP Plants.» This work, developed in collaboration with DLR, CERTH, and Landson Advanced Ceramics A/S, presents the experimental results of our innovative porous perovskite structures enabling hybrid sensible–thermochemical storage, enhancing the efficiency and scalability of CSP systems.
  • Poster Presentation by Javier Baigorri Martínez (CENER):
Mr. Baigorri Martínez showcased a techno-economic assessment of ABraytCSPfuture, conducted with CENER, Tekniker, CERTH, and DLR. The study demonstrates the techno-economic potential of coupling redox-based storage with air-Brayton CSP plants in a use-case in Chile, highlighting competitive levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) and advanced operational strategies for dispatchable renewable power.

Conference Highlights

SolarPACES 2025 featured a comprehensive program covering various topics, including advanced materials, commercial projects, hybrid systems, and digital tools in CSP technology solarpaces-conference.org.
