ABraytCSPfuture Hosts 2nd Stakeholder Workshop on Sustainable CSP Development

On October 8, 2025, the #ABraytCSPfuture project hosted its 2nd Stakeholder Workshop, bringing together experts to collaboratively explore solutions addressing the #environmental, #social, and #economic impacts of future Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants.

The online workshop, held via Microsoft Teams, gathered more than 20 participants from diverse backgrounds, including project developers, academia, industry representatives, and independent experts. Several participants were from outside the ABraytCSPfuture consortium, reflecting the project’s commitment to open collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

The session began with an introduction to the project and a presentation of key findings from a recent stakeholder survey, setting the stage for structured brainstorming sessions. Participants were then divided into two thematic breakout groups—environmental and socio-economic issues—to discuss potential solutions, assess feasibility, and identify the actors involved in implementation.

Key Focus Areas

  • Environmental: Resource depletion, water consumption
  • Social: Land conflicts, social inequality
  • Economic: High initial capital costs, levelized cost of electricity (LCOE)

Conference Highlights

During the breakout sessions, participants generated a wide range of ideas and strategies to address these priority issues. The workshop concluded with plenary presentations and discussions, allowing all attendees to share insights and reflect on common themes.

A special thank you went to our colleagues from Fraunhofer IWKS—Priskila Foresto, Emanuel Ionescu, Vanessa Zeller, and Laura Belzner—for organizing such a productive and engaging event.

The 2nd Stakeholder Workshop exemplified how diverse expertise can come together to co-create actionable solutions for next-generation CSP plants, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in building a more sustainable energy future.
