Glimpses from SolarPACES 2023: ABraytCSPfuture’s Impact

Here are some captivating moments from ABraytCSPfuture‘s engaging participation in the SolarPACES 2023 Conference held in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Christos Agrafiotis (DLR) and Dr. George Karagiannakis (CERTH) represented our consortium at this remarkable event, where they had the privilege of sharing the latest advancements in our Concentrated Solar Power (#CSP) technology project with the esteemed solar thermal community.

The conference proved to be a hub of insights, innovations, and collaborative discussions, reaffirming our commitment to shaping the future of high-temperature solar thermal plants and thermochemical energy storage. Dr. Agrafiotis and Dr. Karagiannakis not only showcased the progress of ABraytCSPfuture but also delved into the intricacies of our groundbreaking research.

Our participation at SolarPACES 2023 featured a significant milestone with the presentation of two research papers. In the first paper (DLR), building on our prior research successes, it has been demonstrated the feasibility of manufacturing robust Ca0.90Sr0.10MnO3 foams with complete reversibility in thermochemical expansion/contraction. These foams, currently undergoing long-term cyclic testing, show fully reversible redox performance without permanent dimensional changes.

The second paper (CERTH) provides insights on material synthesis parameters to achieve relatively high purity Ca-Mn-based compositions and subsequently optimize their redox performance during a preliminary 5-cycle campaign, with no redox performance degradation. The total amount of heat per cycle during either reduction or oxidation, based on DSC analysis, was calculated to be up to 12 J/g.

Additionally, a poster presentation summarized the overall concept of the ABraytCSPFuture project, showcasing its challenges and potential solutions.
